Dr Linda Nkatha Gichuyia

Dr Nkatha holds an MPhil in Environmental Design and a PhD in Architecture, both from the University of Cambridge, UK. Before commencing her PhD, she worked in multiple architectural firms in Nairobi and as a Tutorial Fellow at the University of Nairobi. As a Lecturer at the University of Nairobi's Department of Architecture, she specialises in Environmental design, as well as building and urban physics subject areas. Her research and teaching portfolio spans architectural design, environmental design, climate change management, ESG and climate-resilient building economics, as well as urban development. Her work explores the intersection of climate resilience, housing systems, rural-urban dichotomies and the resultant built environments, particularly in African cities. 

Dr Nkatha's 15+ years of professional journey span academia, public service, consultancy, and uptakeable research for development in various capacities she has held, including international visiting professor, practising Architect, part-time public servant, Gates Cambridge Scholar, and ESG & urban development consultant. She has co-led major international research initiatives funded by the FCDO, the MasterCard Foundation, Ethno Kalos, and the Mellon Foundation, among others. She has published extensively on climate adaptation, informal settlement management, housing and settlements, urban governance, and building physics. Dr Nkatha's academic practice bridges research, policy engagement, and curriculum innovation.
