Dr. Veronica Wambui Mwangi is a Lecturer in the Department of Geography, Population and Environmental Studies at the University of Nairobi. She holds a PhD in Economic Geography from the University of Nairobi, with research focused on the economic analysis of agro-food value chains and their influence on household food security and poverty alleviation. Her academic interests span economic geography, food systems research, eco-systems valuation, inequality, and poverty studies.
Dr. Mwangi has been involved in several interdisciplinary research projects, including work with the African Cities Research Consortium (ACRC), CETRAD, and international collaborations funded by organizations such as the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and the UK International Development. She has conducted research stays at the University of Bonn and the University of the Fraser Valley, and her publications appear in peer-reviewed journals such as Frontiers in Sustainable Food Systems, Sustainability, Agriculture, and Scientific Reports.
Her teaching and research emphasize the application of value chain analysis, participatory methods, and eco-systems valuation in addressing food insecurity and development challenges in urban and rural contexts. Dr. Mwangi is also an active member of several scholarly networks including the International Association for the Study of the Commons (IASC), Young Economic Geographers Network (YEGN), KAAD Association of Scholars in East Africa (KASEA Kenya) and the Environmental Institute of Kenya (EIK).

Dr. Veronica Mwangi’s research interests lie at the intersection of economic geography, food systems, food security and eco-system valuation. Her work focuses on the analysis of food value chain activities and their implications for household food security, poverty alleviation, and sustainable livelihoods. Dr. Mwangi’s involvement in international collaborations, including projects on urban health and nutrition, food retail and sustainability, and rural-urban linkages, reflects a strong commitment to applied research that informs both policy and community-level interventions.
