Wilson GITAU (PhD), a trained meteorologist, is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Earth and Climate Sciences at University of Nairobi (UoN) in Kenya. He has over seventeen (17) years of experience in teaching, research, consultancy and supervision at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has supervised 1 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and more than 15 Master of Science (MSc) students to completion on their research dissertations and thesis. He has examined more than 25 postgraduate students at the faculty. He is currently supervising three PhD and two MSc students. He was a visiting lecturer in University of The Gambia in 2018 to teach on advanced postgraduate diploma in Meteorology programme.
Dr Gitau has been involved in five international projects / research grants as a Co-PI or regular team member. One of these international research grants is currently ongoing. I have also co-authored at least 25 peer-reviews research articles on various aspects related to weather and climate over East Africa. He is currently a member of the scientific steering committee of the World Climate Research Programme - Global Precipitation Experiment (WCRP-GPEX), a World Meteorological Organisation lighthouse activity.
He has been a Vice-Chair of the Management and Executive Committees for the Kenya Meteorological Society (KMS - A professional society for Meteorologists in Kenya) and a council member of Association of Professional Societies of East Africa (APSEA) for three years. Currently, he is a life member of KMS.
