Born in Bungoma District of Western Province of Kenya in May 1965. Got Primary education in Naivasha Boys Boarding Primary School, Naivasha; Secondary education in Kibabii High School, Bungoma,  and High School Education in Menengai High School, Nakuru. Joined University of Nairobi in 1985 for undergraduate course in Veterinary Medicine, culminating in a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1989. In 1991, on a scholarship from the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) and the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) proceeded to Sweden for a Diploma Course in Animal Reproduction at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Uppsala, Sweden, and was admitted Fellow of the Royal Veterinary College Stockholm (FRVCS). In 1995, on a scholarship from the Swedish Council for Agricultural and Forestry Research, was awarded a PhD in Veterinary Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Joined University of Nairobi in 1989 as an Assistant Lecturer teaching Theriogenology at Clinical Studies Department of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, where still stationed currently as an Associate Professor. Has served as Head of Theriogenology in the Department, supervised PhD and MSc students, examined local and external postgraduate theses, carried out research and consultancies on various aspects of livestock development, published over 40 journal and/or conference papers locally and internationally and served as an external examiner in Sokoine University of Agriculture, Tanzania.
