Samuel Owuor

Samuel Owuor is an Urban Geographer and Associate Professor at the Department of Geography, Population and Environmental Studies of the University of Nairobi, Kenya. He has also served as a visiting scholar in University of Jyvaskyla in Finland, University of Bordeaux in France and African Studies Centre Leiden in Netherlands. He holds a PhD in Human Geography from the University of Amsterdam, Netherlands. He has, over the years, demonstrated an impressive track record in scientific and policy-directed research, publications, international collaborations and supervision of graduate students. Notably, he has been a co-investigator in multi-disciplinary research projects funded by SSHRC, IDRC, UN-HABITAT, EU and CODESRIA, among others. In addition, he has gained administrative experience and leadership skills in various professional appointments during his career, including serving as Head of Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at the University of Nairobi. His research interests and experience revolve around broad and specific fields of urban geographies, urban development and governance, urban poverty and livelihoods, urban food and nutrition security, and urban-rural linkages.
