    Professor Salome Bukachi is Research Professor of Anthropology and current  Director/Chair of the Institute of Anthropology, Gender and African Studies. She specializes in social/Medical anthropology with 25+ years of experience in infectious diseases, specializing in community practices, One Health, gender, and nutritional anthropology. Skilled in cultural aspects of food systems, health systems, and socio-economic and behavioural dimensions of disease and development. She holds a PhD in Anthropology and lectures Anthropology at the University of Nairobi, has supervised over 50 postgraduate students and published over 70 manuscripts in peer reviewed journals. She also works with various stakeholders both local and international in undertaking research and development on anthropological issues and one health. She is a member of several regional and global initiatives. She has won several research grants and fellowships from organisations/Institutions such as the Government of Kenya, EU, IDRC, BMGF, SNSF, Universities of Oxford & Cambridge, Netherlands Fellowship Program. She is a former fellow of the inaugural Fellowship Programme in the Social Science in Humanitarian Action Platform and an alumni fellow (2019) of the African Oxford Initiative.   Salome has mentored many African Anthropologists and has created a niche for herself in the emerging field of Anthropology of infectious diseases including One Health.
