Was born in the year 1957 in Machakos County. After my early education, I joined the University of Nairobi in 1978 for a degree course in Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) which I completed in 1983. In 1984, I was offered a scholarship by the Norwegian Agency for Development (NORAD) to pursue master’s studies in the Department of Public Health, Pharmacology and Toxicology (PHPT), University of Nairobi. I completed the MSc in Veterinary Public Health in 1987 after which I was appointed a lecturer in the same department in 1988. In 1991, I was offered another scholarship for PhD studies by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) through a linkage programme between the University of Nairobi and the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. During the period, I visited the University of Guelph (1991 and 1994-1995) for advanced courses in quantitative methods in epidemiology and statistics and at the same time commenced my studies on the epidemiology and control of rabies in Machakos District. I was awarded PhD degree in 1999 in veterinary public health. I have since been promoted to a Senior lecturer (2000) and an Associate Professor in 2012.

Other than teaching both undergraduate (Epidemiology and public health) and postgraduate courses (epidemiology) conducted within the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, I have also been involved in the supervision of  postgraduate students and currently I have supervised successfully 18 masters students and 3 PhD students. Currently I am supervising other postgraduate students who are at various stages of their degree programmes. I have also been active in research activities and have published 18 articles in peer-reviewed journals and 10 other articles presented in conference/workshops both within Kenya and outside. In addition, I have done consultancies for international organizations (e.g. JICA, FAO) in my area of specialization. I am a member of the Kenya Veterinary Association and a registered veterinary surgeon by the Kenya Veterinary Board.
