Mary Otieno

Mary is a Clinical Psychologist with over a decade of experience working as a mental health professional. She earned a Master of Science degree in Clinical Psychology and a Bachelor of Psychology (Counseling) from the University of Nairobi. Mary currently works as a Student Counselor in Kisumu Campus offering services to students and staff to improve mental health and overall wellbeing.

Her passion for psychology stems from her experience teaching high schoolers and the firsthand interaction with issues that affect the young people and hinder progression in their educational, psychological, and social spaces. Mary’s research interests include improved mental wellbeing; better and holistic health services for the students and staff in educational institutions; the effects of climate change on mental health with a focus on behavior, cognitive ability and academic achievement of children and adolescents in flood prone areas in Western Kenya.

Mary is a proud mother of three wonderful adult children and thinks her own parenting experience has enriched her therapeutic work providing her with greater empathy and understanding for the students and staff she serves.
Mary is a Certified Professional Mediator and away from work, she helps facilitate communication and understanding within families and resolves disputes in her community. She also offers life coaching to the youth from humble backgrounds.
