The purpose of this unit is to introduce the student to principles of animal breeding, selection and advances in biotechnology and genetic modification.
Unit objectives
At the end of the unit the student will be able to:
1. Demonstrate quantitative traits and genetic parameters.
After completing the course, the students will be able to explain the concepts involved in animal breeding plans, design breeding plans, formulate breeding goals, analyze the consequences of the choices made on the outcome of the breeding plan, and evaluate the long-term sustainability of the breeding plan
