Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences. Agnes Mwang’ombe served for over ten years as Principal, at the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences, at the University of Nairobi, Kenya. She also served as Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Nairobi. In 2009, Prof. Mwang’ombe was awarded by the Africa Crop Science Society the certificate for outstanding contribution to crop production in Africa as the best woman Agricultural researcher in Africa; Received an IMPRESSA Award for recognition of excellence in Capacity building, Networking and mentoring young professionals, during RUFORUM Conference on 28th August 2015 in Windhoek, Namibia. As an eminent scholar, her research works are well published in peer reviewed journals.
From March 2008 to 2011: AWARD Steering Committee member and Vice-Chair. AWARD which was Funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation; Prior to that served in CGIAR GENDER DIVERSITY PROGRAM BASED IN ICRAF: AWARD committee member for the East African countries. The program was funded by The Rockefeller Foundation. (2005 upto 2008). She served as the first chairperson of Kenya Professional Association of Women in Agriculture and Environment (KEPAWAE) from 1995 to 2001 where she initiated a girlchild scholarship program and mentorship for the same girls. She has served in several local and international Boards including the Consortium Board for CGIAR, based in Montpellier France.
She is the Kenyan Coordinator for The Professional Fellows Program - Advancing Women Agribusiness Entrepreneurs and Innovators hosted at Michigan State University (MSU) but connects Ugandan, Tanzanian, and Kenyan agribusiness professionals and entrepreneurs with their counterparts in Michigan for knowledge exchange and capacity building. The program, funded by US State Department since 2017, strengthens visiting fellows’ skills in agro-entrepreneurship and agri-food system innovation, and addresses issues of women’s economic empowerment.
