Peninah Mutonga, Architect, MPhil, BArch.

Peninah is a design & research consultant with over five years of professional experience in architectural design and project planning of residential, commercial and mixed use urban developments. She has worked as a project architect at Bowman Associates - BAA Architects, a leading and independent architectural, planning and project management firm in Kenya and East Africa, on a range of design projects in Nairobi, Addis Ababa and Kismayu. In 2012, Peninah co-founded and became editorial director for ArchiDatum, an independent online magazine and social startup. She is a member of the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) and the Board of Registration of Architects & Quantity Surveyors (BORAQS), and an alumni of the University of Cambridge (MPHil) and the University of Nairobi (BArch). She has worked as a Lead Consultant on Affordable Housing Research at Orkidstudio, developing business proposals for Affordable Housing models in Kenya, and is currently teaching at the Department of Architecture, University of Nairobi. She is passionate about generating new knowledge for the industry and linking up with the private and public sectors in research, sustainable urban design, housing developments,
and project management. In 2018, Peninah was recognized as a TechWomen Emerging Leader by the USA Department of State’s Educational & Cultural Affairs.
