BioInovate Africa is a regional platform supported by Sida for collaboration in bioscience research and innovation that
contributes to Africa’s growth and sustainable development.
BioInovate Africa supports multidisciplinary teams of scientists, researchers, innovators and entreprenuers to develop and pilot innovative and economically viable biobased technologies, products, and services.
BioInovate Africa also engages with policy makers to evaluate relevant policy options to promote bioscience innovations in eastern Africa.
Focus areas:
Value addition to agroproduce and related bioresources
Agro/biowaste conversion in support of environmental sustainability.
Policy development in support of a bioeconomy.
Mission
To enable scientists, researchers, innovators and entreprenuers at eastern African universities, public research institutes and private firms to connect biobased research ideas and technologies to business and the market, and by so doing, improve lives of smallholder farmers and communities.
