Dr. Waithira Mirie is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Nursing Sciences, University of Nairobi. She obtained her Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Foods and Nutrition from College of St. Elizabeth, USA, Masters of Science (MSc) in Applied Human Nutrition, from Unit of Applied Human Nutrition, University of Nairobi, and a Doctor of Health Science from Nova Southeastern University Florida (USA). She is a nutritionist practitioner with 12 years experience and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) for 7 years. She has both local and international experience in teaching and working in nutrition and maternal child health programs. She has been teaching, supervising clinical experiences and conducting community health diagnosis for the last 23 years. She has undertaken research in nutrition and in her specific area of interest which is breastfeeding and human lactation. She has contributed to development of Kenya’s nutrition policies, specifically in Maternal Infant and Young child feeding (MIYCF) and in training of multidisciplinary teams of health professionals in Lactation Management Education. She has published articles in refereed journals, and has written a chapter in a book on nutrition for the elderly.
