Charles Maina Gichaba

Professor Charles Maina Gichaba is an associate professor in the Department of Earth and Climate Sciences in the University of Nairobi. This seasoned geologist and hydrogeologist has spent much of his professional career cultivating a robust research and educational knowledge in groundwater assessment, environmental monitoring, and sustainable dryland water management. Gichaba holds a PhD in Earth Sciences majoring in Environmental Hydrogeology from the University of Parma in Italy. Before attaining his doctoral degree, he had already graduated with a Master of Science in Geology majoring in Hydrogeology. Over his academic life, Professor Gichaba has been very much engaged in researching at the highest level in fields like GIS-based environmental mapping, watershed hydrology, and land use impact on natural resources. Most of his research efforts have been focused towards tackling environmental issues such as water management of drylands agriculture and atmospheric changes due to mining activities in Kenya. Apart from research work, he is also devoted to training upcoming geologists by guiding their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Masters of Science courses in the Department of Earth and Climate Sciences
