Purpose of the Course
To enable the learner to understand different types of radiation, interaction with matter, detection and measurement

Expected Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course, the learner should be able to:
1. Classify radiation sources
2. Explain the interaction of radiation with matter
3. Explain radiation detection processes
4. Select appropriate instrumentation for different kinds of radiation.
5. Design basic radiation detectors.

Course Content
Classification of radiation sources, Interaction of radiation with matter, Electron energy loss mechanism, Nuclear Radiation Detectors: Ionization chambers, Proportional counters, Geiger Muller Counters, Scintillation counters, Semi-conductor detectors, Emulsion Techniques, Cloud chambers, Counting statistics, Single and Multichannel Analysis Systems
