Purpose of the Course
To familiarize students with the structures and properties of semiconductors, magnets and superconductors.

Expected Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course, the learner should be able to:
1. Describe the different types of crystal structures.
2. Classify different solids.
3. Apply the knowledge acquired to characterize materials.

Course Content
Crystal structures, determination of crystal structure by x-ray diffraction. Lattice vibration, phonons, the theory of free electron gas theory, semiconductors, magnetism: diamagnetism and paramagnetism superconductivity, Meissner effect, applications.
