Lilian Githere

Lilian Githere trained from 1986 to 1990 in the Minsk Institute of Culture, currently known as Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts in Belarusia. She qualified for the award of a Master's Degree in Arts, specializing in Library Science and bibliography. She successfully completed a one-year postgraduate Diploma in Education in 2002 at Kenyatta University and obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Education certificate. Currently, she is enrolled part-time in Moi University, Nairobi Campus for a Ph.D. program in the School of Information Science, Records Management, and Information studies.

She sat for examination for the East African Certificate of Education and qualified for the award of an East African Certificate of Education in 1979. In 1981, she sat for the Advanced Certificate of Education Examination. From 1984 to 1985, she studied at Kenya Polytechnic; she successfully completed a three months course in database management in 1992 at Kenya Technical Teachers College.

She has 31 years of working experience in libraries after obtaining library and information science training at master’s degree level; 13 years in Kenya Institute of Education and 18 years in the University of Nairobi, Library Department, first at Librarian and then at Senior librarian level. She has been in charge of various sections of libraries and libraries in the University of Nairobi library system namely; IDS & PSRI Libraries, College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences Library, Africana section, and deputy in charge of the Cataloging Section. She was also in charge of various sections of the library at Kenya Institute of Education between 1991–2003 namely; Technical services, Readers services, Periodicals, and Reports sections, and later in charge of the library.

She is computer literate and has several years of working knowledge with various software packages; Vubis smart, CDS/ISIS, and Microsoft Windows office software packages; Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and the Internet.

She had 4 months of working experience in various libraries in Byelorussia for her practical attachment. From 1982 to 1983, she taught in 2 secondary schools. In 2002 she taught at Senior Chief Koinange High School for 3 months for Practical attachment. During her training at Kenyatta University, she carried out research in the acquisition, organization, and utilization of print and nonprint media in selected schools in the Kiambaa division. Currently, she is carrying out research on information services provided to distant learners in selected private universities in Kenya.
