Short Bio

Mr. Wilson Macharia Kairu is a Tutorial Fellow at the Institute of Nuclear Science & Technology - University of Nairobi. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology in 2009 and his Masters of Science in Nuclear Science from the University of Nairobi in 2016. He is a qualified and certified NDT personnel up to Level III in four NDT techniques namely Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Radiographic Testing (RT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) and Penetrant Testing (PT) NDT Inspector. He worked as a lead supervisor during the installation of the Mombasa-Nairobi KPC pipeline while working for Quality Inspectors Limited (QIL) from the year 2015 to 2017. He has also been involved in the Non-destructive inspection of concrete buildings while working at QIL and the University of Nairobi. At the University of Nairobi, he was involved in the establishment of radiotracer facilities at the University of Nairobi through the project RAF/0/038: Promoting Technical Cooperation among Developing Countries in Africa through Triangular Partnerships. Through this project he has been able to carry out some group trainings in non-destructive testing, gamma scanning as well as radiotracers application in industries. He is currently undertaking a joint PhD at the University of Nairobi and Indian Institute of Technology- Madras (IIT) where his research work is on the development of an online ultrasonic system for structural health monitoring of reinforced concrete buildings
