Prof. J.O. Jung’a worked as Molecular geneticist Research Scientist at the Institute of Primate Research, National Museums of Kenya for twenty years rising to the level of Senior Scientist in 2004. At the National Museums of Kenya, Prof. Jung’a conducted a great member of research studies on the genetics of African Wildlife large mammal species, before changing interest to study the mechanisms involved in cell growth and death in aquatic species due to environmental stress toxicants.
Prof. Jung'a became section head of Animal Genetics and Breeding in the Department of Animal Production 2010. In 2013 he was appointed the Chairman of the Department, a position he is still holding to date where by he is serving his third term upon re-appointment on 2019. His current research interests lies in the areas of molecular genetics and molecular Toxicology especially environmental epidemiology and ecotoxicology. Professor Jung’a has conducted a lot of research in the area of stress biology and wildlife conservation.
