DR. JAMES KAHUNYO

Hails from Kamatu village, Mathira  Division of Nyeri County where he was born on 12th August, 1954.
He had his early education in Ngunguru  Primary School, Nyeri between 1962 and 1968; had secondary education in Kagumo High School also in Nyeri between 1969 and 1974, attaining both the East African Certificate of Education (E.A.C.E) in 1972 and the East African Advanced Certificate of Education (E.A.A.C.E) in 1974.
He had his under and Post graduate education in the University of Nairobi, attaining Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) degree in 1979 and Master of Science (MSC) degree in 1983.  His MSC Thesis was based on study of the level of organanochlorine pesticide residues in both chicken fat and eggs from some areas in the country.
He is currently a lecturer in Pharmacology and Toxicology in the Department of Public Health, Pharmacology and Toxicology (PHPT), Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences (CAVS), University of Nairobi (UON).
He joined U.O.N service soon after graduating with a BVM in July 1979.  Other than the MSC Thesis, he has three other publications.  He has also peer-reviewed one Publication for the Journal of Experimental Biology and Medicine, published by the Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine.
He has been widely involved in community service, especially as a Board member in CHUNA SACCO, a welfare organization mainly for U.O.N staff in which he has represented Kabete Campus from 1996 to-date and during this tenure he has served as the organization’s Chairman for eleven (11) years (1996- 2005; 2009- 2011).
He was elected to the Group Board of the Co-operative Bank of Kenya in 2005 and continues to serve on the said Board.
