Prof John H. Nderitu was born in 2nd June 1952. He holds a Bed (Science) Honors degree in Zoology, Botany and Education (1978), Msc in Agricultural Entomology from University of Nairobi(1984) and Ph D in Agricultural Entomology from University of Dar-es-salaam (1990). He has attended the following short technical and leadership courses :- Transformative and result based management oriented to Rapid Results Initiative; performance contracting,; Safety and Health; participatory Monitoring and Evaluation; Public Procurement rules and regulations; ISO 9001; Effective labour management ; Labour advocacy and negotiation skills; Scientific proposal writing; Pedagogy; Content development and E-learning tools; database production; internal examinations and Ph D supervision. He was employed in Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI) in 1978 and worked for 14 years as a research scientist and senior research scientist and 28 years at the University of Nairobi as a Senior lecturer, Associate Professor, and Professor. He has attended international courses in plant protection in Netherlands (1981), Britain (1991), Germany(1994), Egypt(2001) and Tanzania(1986) and has participated in over 250 conferences/ workshops/seminars held in Kenya, Malawi, Ghana, Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, Ethiopia, Egypt and Zimbabwe, South Africa and Canada. In addition he had been a visiting research scientist in Ethiopia (1997), Canada (2007) and Colombia (1993). He has undertaken over 30 crop management research projects on beans, sweet potato, Irish potato, green grams, pigeon peas, maize and horticultural crops funded by Rockefeller Foundation, CIAT, AHI, FAO, ABLH, NRF, KCSAP, ASARECA, KAPP , CHE , UNDP, Deans committee(UON) and NCST. He has published more than 100 papers in referred journals and more than 100 papers in conference refereed proceedings. He has carried out several consultancies on pest management and other agricultural disciplines and written technical/consultancy reports . To his credit he has co-supervised and examined 80 Msc and 10 Ph Ds students in crop management and has also been an external examiner for 30 Msc and Ph D thesis in pest management in Makerere University, Jomo Kenya University of Agriculture and Technology, Kenyatta University and Egerton University. He has co-authored two university textbooks namely “ Agricultural entomology: practical aspects of agricultural entomology” and “Invertebrate Zoology for beginners” He has been a visiting scientist in CIAT (Colombia, 1993) and Mcgrill University (2007, Canada). He has reviewed many research proposals , conference papers and Journals papers. He was a member of National Agricultural Information Task Force of Ministry of Agriculture (2006); Member of Advisory Board of EAAFRO Journal (2007), Chairman Kenya Organic Standard , KBS (2005-2007)and Member of National Potato Council of Kenya (12010-Present) Member of Multi-institutional Technical Team (MITT) 0f Ministry of Agriculture (2017- Present). He is a former National Chairman of Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU,2003-2005) and former Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Nairobi (2006-2010). He has been Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs, DVC Research and DVC Resource Mobilization at Mount Kenya University(2010-2015)
