A Paper presented at the 11 the Conference of the International Society for Oral Literature in Africa by Prof. Helen Oronga Aswani Mwanzi. The paper underscores the rich symbol of a donkey in the oral literature of the Luhya Community. It is admired for its tenacity, revered for its silent endurance, respected for its ability to refuse to cooperate when the demands seem blind to its welfare. I used feminist lenses to mount the argument for women's audibility and visibility.
