Born in October 1952. He attended the University of Nairobi where he obtained a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) degree in 1979. He was employed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development in 1979 as a Veterinary Research Officer in the Wildlife Disease Research Section. He got a scholarship from IDRC to pursue a MSc degree in Wildlife Medicine at the Ontario Veterinary College , University of Guelph, Canada. On completion he was appointed Head of Wildlife Disease Section. He later joined the Institute of Primate Research (IPR), Karen as a Clinical Veterinary Officer and Research Scientist in 1985. While there, he obtained a WHO scholarship to pursue a PhD degree (in Parasitology and  Epidemiology ) at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM),  University of  Liverpool, UK. On completion of his studies, he was appointed Head of Animal Resources. In 1996 he was seconded to the National Museums of Kenya as Curator of the Nairobi Snake Park. In 1997  he  joined  Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) as the Animal Curator of the  Nairobi Animal Orphanage and Nairobi Safari Walk. He joined the University of Nairobi in 2004  as  a  Lecturer until 16th July 2014. He is now a Senior Lecturer and continues to teach Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Wildlife Medicine to Diploma, Undergraduate and Postgraduate students. He continues to conduct research and supervise both MSc and PhD students.
