Dr Gikenye  is a medical graduate of University and a surgeon.He has taught Anatomy to medical, dental nurses and physiotherapist as well as surgeons in training. He got his postgraduate training in orthopaedics in Nairobi, Israel- Tel Aviv and in U.K Glasgow.

He has held the chair in department of Human Anatomy and was very active in development of income generating activities in the department. He is a founder member of both Surgical Societies of Kenya and Kenya Orthopaedic Association. He is still serving in the Council of the latter.
