Prof. Peter Karuri Gathumbi

Prof Peter K. Gathumbi is a Professor of Veterinary Pathology, University of Nairobi. He has extensively taught for many years at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He was a visiting scholar at School of Veterinary Medicine University of Ghana in 2018. He has conducted extensive research in veterinary pathology and supervised many postgraduate students and severally served as internal and external examiner. He supports the Department in diagnostic services in veterinary pathology and he was the lead pathologist investigating the death of Rhino in Tsavo East National park in 2018. His special interest is in gross pathology, histopathology, immunohistology, ethnoveterinary medicine and conservation of medicinal plants. He established a botanical garden of medicinal plants at University field station Kabete. From 2010 to 2016, he chaired the Faculty Biennial Scientific Conference Committee that coordinated the 2010, 2012 and 2014 conferences. He was the Chairman of the Department of Veterinary Pathology, Microbiology and Parasitology from February 2010 to February 2016, As Chairman of Department, initiated review of academic programs, brought in new equipment, implemented renewal of facilities to support teaching and research, and led a cohesive highly motivated staff.
