George Gathigi is a Lecturer at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Nairobi, Nairobi Kenya. George has over 16 years of experience in the Higher Education Instruction, Communication, Media, Development and Social Change. He holds a Ph.D. in Mass Communication and Masters of Arts in Development Communication from Ohio University and a BA in Linguistics and Political Science from University of Nairobi.

He currently teaches courses on Research, Development Communication and Health Communication and also supervises students at PhD, Master’s and undergraduate levels. George has previously taught at Hampshire College, Amherst Massachusetts and Ohio University Athens, Ohio.

In addition to higher learning instruction, George is engaged in various work around development consulting in the civil society and public sector. He has trained for various organizations including UNICEF C4D, AMREF Regional Training Center, Internews in Kenya and Ohio University Without Borders C-Change project.  He has worked in project implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and project documentation in areas of Health, Economic Empowerment and Livelihoods, Environment and Natural Resource Management (ENRM), Democracy, Governance and Human Rights, Gender and Women Issues, among others. He has successfully undertaken assignments for different institutions including Inter-Church Cooperation (ICCO) Eastern Africa Office, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), ActionAid International (Kenya), Article 19 East Africa, Anglican Overseas Aid (AOA), World Health Organization, Act Change Transform (ACT!) among others.

George is also interested in Mentoring and Community empowerment and activism.
