Prof. Mohamud Jama is an Agricultural Economist with specialization in Environmental and Natural Resource Economics. He is the former Ag. Principal and Deputy Principal, College of Humanities & Social Sciences (CHSS), and Director, Institute for Development Studies (IDS) respectively. He has over 30 years of research, teaching and training experience in development, agriculture, environment and natural resource issues and policy. Currently, Prof. Jama is the Dean (Ag.), Faculty of Social Sciences.
Prof. Jama has served as a consultant for the World Bank, United Nations Development program’s Africa 2000 Network and GEF (Small Grants) Projects, respectively, United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP), the Government of Kenya and several international partners.
Prof. Jama has been Chair/member/trustee on several Boards and Councils, among them Kenya Agricultural – Research Institute (KARI), Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KEMFRI), National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA), National Governing Council of New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) and Murang’a University Council. He was part of a 13-member Presidential Advisory Committee on the Economy of Kenya, a pre-cursor to the concept of Institutional Performance Contracting and Vision 2030. Further, Prof. Jama represented the University of Nairobi in the 12-member team that conceptualized and formulated the report on the establishment of the Kenya School of Government.
Currently, Prof. Jama is a member of the African Leadership Centre (ALC) Board of Trustees, King’s College London; Umma University and Executive Committee for Greater Horn Horizons Forum (GHHF), UNESCO & IGAD sponsored.
Moreover, he has been the Resident Director for Minnesota Studies in International Development (MSID Kenya) and Administrative Coordinator, School for International Training (SIT) until 2016. He also served as guest lecturer for other Study Abroad programs, among them, Lewis & Clarke, Dartmouth and St. Lawrence.
