Christine Minoo Mbindyo, is a lecturer at the Department of Veterinary Pathology, Microbiology and Parasitology, University of Nairobi. She is both a Veterinarian and a Microbiologist. Her duties include teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students in areas of Microbiology, Poultry clinic consultancy and diagnostics. She is also involved in mentoring students on personal development and career progression.
She holds a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM), Master of Science degree (MSc.), and Ph. D both in Applied Microbiology (Bacteriology option) all from the University of Nairobi.
Her Ph. D work was on ‘Bovine mastitis: Establishing bacterial diversity, associated risk factors and Antimicrobial resistance profiles of the isolates in Kajiado and Embu Counties, Kenya. Her Ph.D work was funded and supported by the Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA). In addition, she is also an alumnus of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Faculty Exchange Program (FEP) 2016.
Her research interests are in areas of ruminant mastitis, zoonotic bacteria, and Antimicrobial resistance. In addition, she has also participated as a Microbiologist and a trainer in Fleming fund AMR projects including the African Society of Laboratory Medicine (ASLM), qualifying the workforce on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Surveillance in Africa and Asia (QWArS), Regional External Quality Assessment Grant for Africa (EQuAFRICA), and Fleming fund AMR training project for Kenyan animal health laboratory staff.
She has authored and co-authored publications in peer-reviewed journals on the areas of ruminant mastitis, zoonosis, and Antimicrobial resistance.
She is driven by strong passion, knowing that through her research she is impacting communities and contributing to the narrative of healthy animals and humans.
