Dr. Ochwang'i is a registered practicing Veterinary Surgeon with a Bachelors degree in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Nairobi (2007).He was awarded University of Nairobi Scholarship to undertake Master of Science in Comparative Mammalian Physiology under staff development.He got an Academic Research Enhancement Award by Western Kentucky University, USA (2008-2009) to work on “Transcriptional Regulation of Nitric Oxide Synthase 3 gene in Pulmonary Myofibroblasts differentiation and the implications for this in pulmonary fibrosis.”This project was funded by NCRR (National Center for Research Resources) Kentucky Biomedical Research Infrastructure Network (KBRIN) and National Institutes of Health (NIH).Dr. Ochwang'i was then employed as Tutorial Fellow in 2009 in the Department of Veterinary Anatomy and Physiology,Faculty of Veterinary Medicine,University of Nairobi. He graduated with a Master of Science in Comparative Mammalian Physiology in 2011. He hold a Doctor of Philosophy Degree from the University of Nairobi awarded in 2017.His dissertation was on "Pharmacophysiological anticancer potential of medicinal plants used in Kakamega County, Kenya".In his Post-Doc project he was a Visiting Research Scholar, Institute of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, Department of Pharmaceutical Biology, Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz, Germany in 2015 funded by Regional Initiative in Science and Education (RISE-AFFNET).In 2018, Dr. Ochwang'i won a three year Post-Doctoral grant with the African Academy of Sciences (AAS) to study “Alternative and complementary cancer therapy using medicinal plants: From molecular characterization to pre-clinical testing”.He is currently a Post-Doctoral Fellow with AAS. He has interests in innovating home grown solutions to contemporary health problems using Natural products.
