Mrs. Catherine Biography

Mrs. Catherine Mueni Peter, is a Senior Laboratory Technologist (Research Assistant) in the Department of Plant Science and Crop Protection, Faculty of Agriculture, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology and Biotechnology from the University of Nairobi and a graduate Diploma in Applied Biology from The Kenya Polytechnic College. I have worked with National Kabete Vet. labs and KALRO ( Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization) before joining the University of Nairobi.
I have also attended an intensive course on Research Methodology and Data Analysis at Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad- India, where I gained vast knowledge on research and data analysis, and managed to write a research paper on Challenges facing Women Entrepreneurs in Kenya and India ( Comparative Study).
In the University, I am charged with various responsibilities in the Department of Plant Science and Crop Protection especially Plant Science Section; Assisting both Undergraduate and Masters students with their projects and research work respectively, on methodology, data collection, its analysis as well as interpretation; Procurement of laboratory consumables and other equipment; Preparation of practical classes for both undergraduate and postgraduate students in Agronomy Unit (Pasture and Fodder, Seed Rate and Fertilizer Rate Determination, weed Science, Botany and Crop Physiology ), Horticulture Unit, as well as Plant Breeding and Biotechnology (Genetics) and assisting in research projects within the department.
On the other hand am also involved in other departmental responsibilities such as Web Champion, keeing the departmental website up-to-date and assisting the staff members with their profile management as well as maintaining ISO standards in the laboratory by ensuring annual calibration of equipments.

Currently, am working on my thesis towards an award of Master of Science Degree in Agribusiness management and Trade, where am working on Consumers' Perception and WTP for Sorghum-Pigeon pea Flakes in Makueni and Busia counties, which is a novel product from the University of Nairobi through value addition towards curbing Malnutrition for a healthy nation.
