Dr. Omucheni is an experienced physicist, technologist, and laboratory leader with a strong specialization in optics and photonics. His expertise spans optical systems design, image processing, and advanced spectroscopic techniques, supported by machine learning, reflecting a career built at the intersection of theory, optical instrumentation, and real-world applications.
He currently serves as Principal Technologist, overseeing and managing all physics laboratories at the University of Nairobi, both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In this role, he is responsible for maintaining high standards of experimental training, supporting cutting-edge research, and ensuring optimal use of sophisticated scientific infrastructure.
Dr. Omucheni’s work is closely tied to a diverse suite of advanced research equipment, including Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) systems, Raman spectroscopy systems, and absorption, reflection, and transmission spectrophotometers. He is also actively engaged with multispectral imaging microscopes and polarimetric devices, enabling detailed analysis of material and biological systems through their optical signature identification via machine learning.
